Most households have a ladder for everyday chores that they need a little boost to reach. If you aren't careful with how you use your ladder though you can end up severely hurt, or worse. If you really want to use a ladder you should pay attention to a few items before your trustfully climb to greater heights.

            A lot of ladders have a specific locking system and if you don't understand the way the system works you can end up with a ladder that is going to fall, bend, or slide while you are standing on it. The best thing you can do is read any instructions you get when you purchase the ladder. Try practicing the system a few times before you even decide to step on the ladder. Once you've mastered it always make sure the ladder is locked and ready before you step onto it.

            You should always consider the surface area that you plan to rest the ladder. It is always best to find flat and solid ground for you ladder, but this is not always a possibility. This will secure the ladder to the top area while keeping the bottom from sliding around. Keeping someone nearby will also allow you to someone present in case there is an emergency, or simply someone to hand you tools so you don't have to keep climbing up and down the ladder.

            Ladders can be entirely convenient when you use them in your home or at work, but can cost you a lot of pain if you don't know what you're doing.
