How to Apply Primer?
In order to apply primer to a surface, we first have to make sure that the surface is clean and dry. If possible, it is a good idea to smooth the surface to be primed with a sand paper and to clean the residue left behind with a damp cloth.
Types of Primer
There are different types of primer available:
- Oil Based Primer: This type of primer creates a smooth finish (it dries very slowly) and is generally used for paint that has deteriorated due to cracks and wood that is not finished.
- Latex Primer: This type of primer dries quickly and are ideal for unfinished dry walls and stops most stains from coming through the paint.
- Shellac Primers: This type of primer can be used to stop stains and prevent bleeding. It is very effective in blocking smoke stains.
Indeed, primer and paint go together. While primer provides bonding and stain blocking capabilities, paint provides durability and color ones.
